LANTERN CLOCK:
History: Lantern Clocks were first made in London @1600. The Movement of Lantern Clocks were driven by weight single using rope or chain. They run for 8-12 hours and strike every hour on bell. Lantern Clocks have just one hand and they are always placed on wooden wall mounted bracket or on a decorative shelf. Generally lantern clocks are never polished and kept in original order. English Clock makers started converting these clocks to the new technology using Fusee Movements which runs for @8 days.
A Lantern clock by Thomas Moore of Ipswich made in Hungary @1960s is a weight driven wall clock, shaped like a lantern. These clocks were very commonly used in homes @1620 in Britain, and in 19th Century it became obsolete. It has a large circular dial, a single hour hand and a large bell. This Lantern clock has a single weight which runs the clock and also strikes hourly on bell. It has a long drop pendulum and a iron weight.
